Introduction

Since this is our first week, we can use it as an opportunity to get to know each other and familiarize ourselves with this course. You will find all of the course material here on the class website under lessons. Even though there is no required textbook for this course, you are expected to follow the links provided in the lesson posts as required reading. All lessons can be found under “Lessons” in the menu above. Instructions for your assignments can all be found under “Assignments”.

Reading

If you are registered for the course, please REVIEW THE COURSE SYLLABUS AND SCHEDULE. The Syllabus provides important information about the course, what you will be learning this semester, and how you will be graded.

Software

Throughout the semester you will learn to create a number of types of media for use on the web. Some of the software we will use is industry standard and others are open source. If you don’t already have access to Adobe Creative Cloud, I recommend signing up for an account. Be sure and purchase a Student Plan ($19.99/mo) if you are purchasing Creative Cloud for school. Note that to get that price you must sign up for a year. If you already have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software, fabulous. You can use your existing account for class. Adobe also has a plan that  is month-to-month, but it is a bit more expensive at $49.99 per month.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are not required to use a particular type of software to complete the assignments for this class. If you prefer to use one piece of software over another, feel free to do so. I will be grading you on your mastery of methods and techniques discussed in the lesson, not your ability to find and click the right buttons in particular Adobe products. Most of my tutorials will focus on Creative Cloud products because they are industry-standard software, but if you would like to use the assignments to learn another piece of software, please do so.

Class Introduction

You will be posting to this website for some of the assignments this semester. Since we won’t be meeting face-to-face, this site will serve as a place for us to discuss assignments and inspiration with one another. If you have enrolled in this class through UAF, you have been added as an author to this WordPress site. You can log in with the same username and password you use to access your UA email. Use the login link at the bottom of the page, or go to https://citsf221.community.uaf.edu/wp-admin/.   If you you cannot log into the class website, please email me ASAP!

Your first post will be your introduction to the rest of the class. The details for your introduction are included in the Assignment 01 instructions.
